Again a trek that was a spontaneous decision… I have made up my mind the day before, hitchhiked to Poprad (closest bigger city), slept over with members of the LC there and in morning hitchhiked to a village right under the High Tatras and started walking… Starting altitude was 894 m above sea level, I wanted to finish on Krivan at 2494 m.
.
Krivan is not just one of the highest peaks of Slovakia (and Central Europe) but also symbols of Slovakia. Its name means “angled” because of its bended shape. It took me 5 hours to get up and had beautiful weather the whole time. I was damn tired at the peak… The peak hoists the symbol of Slovakia - a double cross, symbol of the creators of the first Slavic alphabet.
On the peak a pack of ravens discovered that there is always some food with the hikers and got used to be fed. One of those black bastards (I actually really like these birds, they are so dark, smart and look witty) was so brave that he took a piece from my hand
For few minutes it looked like a press conference - six guys taking pictures of the raven who was sitting calmly like a star on a rock in the middle of us.
On the way I passed two mountain lakes - Strbske Pleso (a tourist resort and start of many hiking paths) and Jamske Pleso (a small lake lost among mountains). Of course I could not resist to try and go for a swim
I picked the smaller one, its actually forbidden so the solemnity of the lake was exactly what I needed… How was it? Cold
